pH Meter and it’s Applications
A pH meter is used to measure the level of acidity or alkalinity of a solution, semi-liquid or liquid. Each and every living organism has to maintain a specific pH level to sustain itself in the world and the environment it exists in. Even blood and water have their standard pH values.
Every process that involves water or soluble compounds should be checked for pH value. A pH meter consists of three parts – an electrode to dip in the solution to measure the voltage, a display and a chip or sensor that is used to process and read the pH value.
The pH value ranges from 0-14 and is the measurement of hydrogen ion concentration of liquid. This value is an indicator of the level of alkaline or acid. Value 7 in a pH meter is the center of the measurement scale and is therefore neither acidic nor basic and is called the neutral value. For instance if the pH value found by the pH meter of soil is found to be optimal it is one of the best condition of soil to be cultivated for wheat or other kind of crops. This maximizes the returns and yields.
